William Hall was born about 1785? in Virginia. In a biography on the family it was stated "The Halls were natives of Virginia, from which State they moved to Kentucky in a very early day, and from thence to Indiana in 1818, settling in Washington County." Here they became prominently connected with the settlement of the county, and worthy and honored citizens.”
William is buried in the Hall Cemetery, Howard Township, Washington County, Indiana. This author has been to this cemetery, and the photos on this page are of that visit there.
My husband's Thixton ancestor is Mary "Polly" Thixton born about 1784 in Virginia and died 1847 in Washington County, Indiana. She married William Hall February 23, 1805 in Bullit County, Kentucky. She and Willliam had several children. Mary's father was John Thixton born 1740 in Virginia and died April 1807 in Bullit County, Kentucky. John was married to a woman named Mary (surname unknown to me) and they had the following children: Mary, Elizabeth Sarah, Rebecca, Joseph, Abraham, William (named after John's brother who came to Kentucky with him) and John, III. I believe John, II's parent's were John Thickstun of New Jersey and Mary Martin. wicwind@adelphia.net Irene Windell.
I recently went to Indiana (May 2003) and visited the Hall Cemetery, Howard Township, Washington County, Indiana and the pictures below are from that trip. I took pictures of almost all of the stones in the cemetery, not just the Hall ones. The cemetery is well kept and there have been a recent burial or two as well. The Gilstrap's intermarried with the Halls and they lived about a mile up the road. I stopped and photographed the Gilstrap Cemetery too. There are several Gilstrap children in the Hall Cemetery. See the GILSTRAP CEMETERY up the road here.
