Born: 1734 in Alsace-Lorainne, Germany (now France) Notes: J ohn Frederick Christian Alleman, son of the Christian Alleman who was the brother of the immigrant Jacob Allemong. He was born in Alsace, Germany in 1734. He and brother John Christian sailed from Hamburg, Germany in the ship “Leathley” commanded by Captain John Lickley. They took their Oath of Allegiance to the government on the day of their arrival in Philadelphia on 19-Sep-1753. He was an early settler in Lancaster Country in the part that later became Dauphin County. He had children baptized at the Hill Lutheran Church, Derry Township in 1758 and appears as a taxable in 1771. Christian Alleman gave grain and forage for the army in the year 1778. He died on 5-Sep-1783 in Paxtang, now Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania where he was engaged in farming. He is buried in the old Lutheran graveyard, Middletown, Pennsylvania. He was married to a Rachel and lived near Middletown, Pennsylvania. He once walked 90 miles from Middletown to Philadelphia to obtain a charter under the colonial government, then under the English crown, for the purpose of building a church in Middletown. Permission was granted in 1764 and old St. Peter Kierch was built three years later. This building is now a national historical landmark. The Daughters of the American Revolution have dedicated a monument on the church grounds to the Dauphin County Revolutionary soldiers. The names of John Frederick Christian Alleman and two of his sons are on this memorial. |
