Jan 1, 1823. 3) Her granddaughter, Susannah related a story that she was told about Susannah while she was a girl in North Carolina. Descendants, relate the following story about Andrew Jackson, the lawyer and eventually president of the USA, while he was a teacher at the school she attended in North Carolina. The source of water for the teachers and the children was a nearby spring. They had to bend down to get their drink. She related that he had pulled her pigtail at some point and she got even, later, when she pushed his face into the spring while he was bending down to take a drink. Another researcher I met in San Diego, related that she had read that he was quite a practical joker, and that while she had not read anything about his days as a teacher, it would fit with his personality. Note: Earlier this summer (1997) I met a woman who had been studying Andrew Jackson. She related that the term "tom-foolery" had been coined because of his teasing nature. I did some reasearch and foundthat he had been in Rowan Co. NC as a young man, and practiced law there for a time --Marie Hurst Lewis |
