Will of Christopher Alleman, b. 1743, son of John Christian Alleman.

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I, Christopher Alleman, of Swatara Township in the County of Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, farmer. Being sick and weak in Body but of sound and disposing mind and understanding Blessed be God for the same and considering the uncertainty of this Mortal Life, do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament, in manner following, to wit:-

Principally and First of all I commend my Immortal Soul into the hands of God the Giver thereof and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as to such worldy estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner-to wit

First: I order and direct that all my just debts and funeral charges shall be paid in a convenient time after my decease by my Executors hereafter named-I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Barbara One good Bed and Bedding and one of an inferior quality One good Milch Cow one heifer tow hogs three sheep one chest, her spinning wheel, her table fifty pounds good bacon Ten Bushels good wheat Fifteen Pounds harvested flax Ten pounds Corn all the Pewter she had when I married her an Iron Wash Kettle and also the use of a new house to be built at my Mill in Cumberland County by my Executor (for which I allow fifty pounds out of my estate) as long as she remains my widow and no longer, together with fire wood, pasture for one cow and the interest of three hundred pounds in cash and at her Death or marriage I order the said three hundred pounds to be divided among her five children, to wit: Peter Sheets, Catharine Schwartz, George Sheets, Elizabeth Sheets and Annie Alliman share and share alike-I give and devise to my two sons Stophel and Jacob my tract of land in Cumberland County with the Mills and all other Improvements thereon erected and being containing sixty eight acres & allowance be the same more or less to hold the same to them their heirs and assigns forever as tenants in common (subject to my widow’s claim granted by this will) which I value to them at three thousand pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania, One thousand thereof I allow them to retain for their two legacies two thousand pounds they must pay to my Estate in gales of two hundred pounds annually commencing, that is to say the first payment due & payable the first day of May One Thousand Eight Hundred and Six and two hundreds pounds annually on the first day of May until the whole is paid expect the last payment of two hundred pounds which I order my son Stophel to pay all himself in two equal payments to two succeeding years to wit the year one thousand Eight Hundred and fifteen and sixteen. My son Jacob getting no trade and serving me longer than my son Stophel did maybe considered my reason for laying the last mentioned two hundred pounds on Stophel for payment.

I further order and direct that the plantation whereon I now dwell shall be sold by my Executor together with all my moveable property not herein before mentioned as soon as conveniently can be after my decease either by public or private sale at the discretion of my Executors for the best prices that can be had and I authorize them or the survivor thereof to execute to the purchaser or purchasers of said land and good and sufficient deed or deeds for the same. I give and devise to my son George Seven hundred pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania to be paid to him at the age of Twenty One Years. I give and devise to my son Martin five hundred pounds which he has already received.

I give and devise to my four sons Martin, Stophel, Jacob and George a Tract of land of five hundred acres more or less in Harrison County in the State of Virginia share and share alike-

I give and devise to my daughter, Barbara five hundred pounds to be applied by my executors to the purchase of land which said land I order to be purchased and conveyed to her and her heirs and assigns forever Consulting her the said Barbara her husband George Shiley as to soil climate and situation I give and devise to my five other daughters to wit, Elizabeth, Christian, Motlena, Mary and Ann each five hundred pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania.

I give and devise to my deceased sons two children Christina and Catherine each two hundred and fifty pounds I further order that the said legacies shall be paid to them or for their use as fast as it is received by my Executors paying to each an equal share that is to say to my daughters and sons daughters and it is further to be understood and it is my direction that if my estate shall not be sufficient to afford five hundred pounds to my daughter Barbara use and to my other daughters Elizabeth , Christina, Motlena, Mary and Anna each five hundred pounds and my son Johns two daughters each two hundred & fifty pounds in such case each of their shared is to be reduced in proportion to its order and if there should be any over plus to be equally divided above paying all their full demands. I order the said over plus to be equally divided among my children, to wit Martin, Stophel, Jacob, George, Barbara, Elizabeth, Christina, Motlena, Mary and Anna share and share alike and any book accounts which I have for money or property advanced by me to any of my children must be counted to them in payment for their share with interest from its date. The allowance made by this will to my wife, Barbara is in full of dower.

And lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my two sons Stophel and Jacob Executors of this my last will hereby revoking all former wills by me made and declaring this & no other to be my last will and Testament.
